Delhi NCR Air Pollution: GRAP 3 restrictions invokes in Delhi-NCR

On January 3, 2025, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) issued an order invoking Stage III (‘Severe’ Air Quality) actions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for Delhi-NCR.

Key Measures Under Stage III:

  • Construction and Demolition Activities: A ban on all non-essential construction and demolition work to reduce dust and particulate matter emissions.
  • Vehicle Restrictions:
    • Prohibition on the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheeler vehicles in Delhi and neighboring NCR districts, with certain exemptions.
    • Ban on non-essential diesel-operated medium goods vehicles with BS-IV or older standards in Delhi.
  • Educational Institutions: Classes up to grade V are required to shift to hybrid mode, offering both online and offline options to reduce exposure of young children to polluted air.
  • Industrial Operations: Restrictions on specific industrial activities contributing to air pollution, ensuring compliance with emission norms.

Public Advisory:

Residents are advised to:

  • Limit outdoor activities, especially during early morning and late evening hours when pollution levels are higher.
  • Use public transportation to reduce vehicular emissions.
  • Avoid using diesel generators and ensure proper maintenance of vehicles to minimize emissions.
  • Stay updated on air quality levels and follow health advisories issued by authorities.

The CAQM emphasizes the importance of collective action and compliance with these measures to mitigate the adverse effects of air pollution in the region.
